Your first week with MET
Start small. Add an account, record an expense, and build a habit that sticks.
Based on MET’s current app source. Screens and feature availability can vary by installed version.
1. Start with the accounts you actually use
Think about where your money lives: a bank account, a wallet, or another everyday account. Use Accounts to review your accounts before recording transactions. Start with the few you use most often.
2. Record one expense
Open the transaction editor from Home’s add action. Choose Expense, enter the amount and date, then select the account and category. Add a short description that will make sense when you come back to it, then save.
For example, a lunch purchase might use your everyday bank account and a food category. Use your own amount and date.
3. Keep income and transfers distinct
Choose Income when money comes in, such as a salary. Choose Transfer when you move money between your own accounts, and select both the source and destination.
Moving money from your bank account to your cash wallet is a transfer. Recording it as an expense would make spending harder to interpret.
4. Look back at the end of the day
Home shows a monthly overview and recent transactions. Open View all for the full transaction list. Check the date, account, category, and amount of the entries you added. Open a transaction to correct it if needed.
5. Build a small routine
- Record purchases while they are still easy to remember.
- Reuse categories consistently so monthly comparisons stay useful.
- Review Insights to explore spending breakdowns and trends.
- Set up a backup before you rely on a growing history.
Once the basics feel comfortable, organize with labels or try Google Sheets.
