Accounts, categories, and labels

Give each transaction a home without making your everyday routine complicated.

Based on MET’s current app source. Screens and feature availability can vary by installed version.

Accounts answer “where?”

Use an account for the place money comes from or goes to. Your bank account and your cash wallet are useful examples. Review Accounts to see account-specific activity.

When moving money between your own accounts, use a Transfer with a source and destination account. This keeps a cash withdrawal separate from spending that cash later.

Categories answer “what kind?”

Choose a category that describes the purpose of an expense or income. Consistent categories make the breakdowns in Insights easier to interpret.

Start broad. A few categories you use reliably are more useful than a long list you keep changing.

Labels, also called tags, let you connect transactions across categories. A trip might include food, transport, and accommodation; give those entries a shared trip label to find them together later.

Add or choose labels in the transaction editor. A transaction can have more than one label.

Find the entries you need

Open the full transaction list from Home → View all. Use search and filters to narrow by fields such as account, category, label, date, or amount. Open a matching transaction to review or edit it.

Try one shared label for your next project or trip. Keep ordinary categories for the type of spending, and use the label to connect the bigger activity.
